In the book,“ Fossil Fuels.”, the author Robert Curely essentially writes about the different types of fossil fuels along with some history behind each one. An example is how he has a chapter labeled “obtaining Petroleum” and in that chapter, he starts off by explaining how petroleum is distributed around the world. Not only does he provide background for fossil fuels, but he also acknowledges the uses of such fossil fuels and how they are so important to our society. An example of this can be seen in the section that he dedicated to the uses of coal. With this book, I was presented with information regarding how valuable fossil fuels are to our society.

Höök, Mikael, and Xu Tang. Depletion of Fossil Fuels and Anthropogenic Climate change—A Review. Elsevier Ltd, 2013.    https://cuny-cc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01CUNY_CC/gc81bt/cdi_swepub_primary_oai_DiVA_org_uu_182885

In the article, “ Depletion of fossil fuels and anthropogenic climate change—A review.”, The authors, Mikael Hook and Xu Tang research what could happen to the climate in the future in relation to our continuous use of fossil fuels. Throughout the article, both authors provide various graphs and data that present information on things such as Co2 emissions as well as how much fossil fuels have been used in the past and how many are expected to have been used in the far future. The combination of data and research proves to deepen my understanding of how fossil fuels are affecting the world as a whole.

Kotcher, John, et al. Fossil Fuels Are Harming Our Brains: Identifying Key Messages About the Health Effects of Air Pollution from Fossil Fuels. BioMed Central Ltd, 2019. https://cuny-cc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01CUNY_CC/gc81bt/cdi_doaj_primary_oai_doaj_org_article_bf1b4689def547aeba83141765eb2b86

In the article, “Fossil fuels are harming our brains: identifying key messages about the health effects of air pollution from fossil fuels.” The author John Kotcher et al., presents an argument of how harmful fossil fuels are to our own health. He explains how reliant we are on fossil fuels and quickly diverges into how our reliance on them is causing us to have health problems. More specifically, he elaborates on how fossil fuels are known to emit harmful gasses into the environment that contribute to a multitude of problems, one of them being air pollution. He then proceeds to give an example of how air pollution is closely connected to heart problems. Further on in his article, he breaks down a study that he did involving a survey that determined which health issues that resulted from air pollution raised the most concern among Americans. The whole point of his study was to find the best way to convince people that cleaner energy is a better option compared to the use of fossil fuels.

McNerney, Jerry, Cheek, Martin. Clean Energy Nation : Freeing America from the Tyranny of Fossil Fuels. AMACOM, 2012.

In the book, “Clean energy nation : freeing America from the tyranny of fossil fuels.”, the authors, Jerry Mcnerney and Martin Cheek discuss America’s history with fossil fuels and their overall use of energy. Within their book, they have different sections on fossil fuels and one of them contains the effect that these fuels have had on different aspects of our lives. An example is how one of their chapters is titled “ Energy and the environment” and in that they further divulge how fossil fuels have specifically affected the environement. This same pattern is followed throughout this same section with other different impacts that fossil fuels have left on our society. In this book, I was able to gather a lot of information about how harmful fossil fuels are in a general sense.

Meehan, Gregory. Thank You Fossil Fuels and Good Night : the Twenty-First Century’s Energy Transition. The University of Utah Press, 2017. https://cuny-cc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01CUNY_CC/o05rus/alma9994295990806138

In the book, “Thank you fossil fuels and good night: the Twenty-First Century’s energy transition.” The author Gregory Meehan has a chapter on fossil fuels and mentions different types of fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum and goes into the history behind each one. An example is how he wrote that coal was first used for mechanical energy and put to use for different modes of transportation such as trains. Throughout this chapter, Gregory never fails to mention that these fuels have multiple uses and not all of them are related to energy. Once or twice Gregory throws in how fossil fuels are contributing to climate change but ultimately he provides us with information about each one. In this article, I found evidence to support how useful fossil fuels really are.

Mohr, S.H. , et al. Projection of World Fossil Fuels by Country. Elsevier Ltd, 2015.

In the article,Projection of world fossil fuels by country.”, the author S.H. Mohr, et al. does an in depth review of how much fossil fuels have been consumed in different regions of the world. In this article, he has different graphs that are color coded to show how much fossil fuels certain countries and continents have produced each year. Getting into specifics, one graph depicts that around the year 2000, Africa had been in the lead for the most gas production compared to other continents like Europe and North America. With this article, I discovered more information on how much energy is produced from fossil fuels.
